Where do you belong?
Sometimes it just works. We get up and all the world is aligned in our favor and it just works. We feel rested. We have new ideas. We get tons done and our focus is perfect. Those are great days but unfortunately they don’t happen often, at least not for me. So I need to stack the deck and create opportunities to improve the odds of getting focused, feeling great and being productive. There are a plethora of self-help books and organizational books and motivational books but no matter how much we know about it it still is hard to make it happen.
“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”
― Brené Brown
It’s the little things that make us more productive. Everyone wants to belong. Belonging to a particular group. Belonging in a place. Belonging to an important cause. When we feel we belong we have less stress, less distractions and our ability to concentrate is elevated. When we are in a place where we belong our chances of having a good day at work skyrocket. When we are surrounded by people that care about us and we care about everyone benefits.
How can we find a place where we belong? Most people don’t find it in a corporate office. Work-at-home folks look for it at Starbucks, Panera or wherever they can get free WiFi. But that falls short for obvious reasons. You might find a friendly face but more likely you’ll encounter and endless parade of people racing off to the place where they belong.
A new phenomena in the work space , coworking, has brought a fresh alternative. Coworking is the idea that people can coexist in the same space and share facilities with conference rooms, copiers and coffee. But something more is included in a coworking space. Community. Community creates the sense of belonging. And belonging is something you don’t get at any price in a typical office.
Metro Work Space is proud to offer a place where you can experience community.
